Shanklish is a dry cheese that originates from Lebanon. It’s made from cow milk, formed into balls and coated with fine herbs such as thyme (zaatar) and then aged.
Shanklish is a common meza dish rarely consumed as such, but rather seasoned in a mixture of olive oil, tomatoes and onions. You can buy Shanklish in any Lebanese grocery store.
Here is the recipe:
Ingredients
-One Shanklish ball
-One small onion finely chopped
-One medium tomato finely chopped
-Olive oil to taste
Preparation
Crumble the Shanklish with a fork and mix with all the ingredients.
Serve with pita bread.
Arak or red wine go great with it!
